LinguaBytes: English Literacy for Seniors

Supporting seniors in building confidence and communication skills for daily life in Canada 

CentreCanada is excited to offer the English Literacy for Seniors program as part of the NHSP initiative. Designed for adults 55+, this program helps participants develop practical English skills needed for everyday situations like healthcare, shopping, transportation, banking, and more. 

Sessions take place every Saturday from 2:00–6:00 PM for 6 weeks, rotating between English Literacy and Digital Literacy each week to provide a balanced and integrated learning experience. 

Program Highlights

Weekly Themes

Participants improve their speaking and listening skills through topics such as:

● Daily expressions, routines, and telling time
● Grocery shopping, restaurants, and consumer language
● Doctor visits, pharmacy conversations, and health-related vocabulary
● Banking and financial interactions
● Transportation, housing issues, and community services
● Culture, family, and Canadian traditions
Interactive Learning Activities
● Role-plays (market, doctor, restaurant, bank scenarios)
● Partner dialogues and group discussion circles
● Practice with real-life materials: Canadian currency, menus, bills, maps
● Cultural sharing sessions and storytelling
● End-of-term oral presentation and certificate ceremony

Who Can Register?

This program is open to seniors who:
● Are 55+ years old
● Can attend classes regularly
● Have an interest in improving day-to-day communication
● Have basic English understanding (not mandatory)
● Complete the registration form
