CentreCanada Newcomer Society Raises Awareness with Cybersecurity Webinar

CentreCanada Newcomer Society hosted an impactful online session focused on staying safe in the digital world. As cyber scams and account takeovers continue to rise, online safety has become a real and urgent issue for everyday users—especially newcomers, seniors, and community members with limited digital experience. 

The webinar, titled “Protect Your WhatsApp, Email, and Social Media Accounts,” was delivered by cybersecurity expert Harun Seker. During the session, participants gained a clear understanding of how phishing attacks and social engineering tactics are used by cybercriminals, along with practical and easy-to-follow steps to protect their personal accounts. 

Key topics included: 

• Preventing WhatsApp and email fraud 

• Protecting social media accounts from unauthorized access 

• Recognizing phishing attempts and suspicious links 

By the end of the session, participants felt more confident and empowered to protect themselves and their loved ones online. For many newcomers and seniors—who are often targeted by digital scams—this knowledge provides essential protection in daily life.
