CentreCanada at the Edmonds Festival of Lights

CentreCanada proudly participated in this year’s Edmonds Festival of Lights, a well-loved annual community event that brings families together to celebrate the holiday season.

Our Presence at the Event

We hosted an engagement desk where our volunteers connected with families, newcomers, and children throughout the afternoon. Highlights from our booth included:

• Balloon animals created by our volunteers, which became one of the most popular attractions of the day. The interest was so high that a long line formed throughout the event.
• Word bracelets that children enjoyed making using colourful beads, encouraging creativity and meaningful conversations.
• Friendly interactions and helpful information shared about CentreCanada’s programs and newcomer support services.

About the Festival

Hosted by the City of Burnaby, the Festival of Lights featured a variety of family-oriented activities:

• Stilt walkers entertaining visitors throughout the plaza
• A visit with Santa Claus inside the community centre
• Holiday craft stations for children
• Hot chocolate, popcorn, and hot dogs served by Burnaby Firefighters
• A tree-lighting ceremony at 5:15 pm, where one child helped the Mayor light the community tree

The event welcomed families from all backgrounds and continued smoothly in both rain and shine, creating an inclusive and memorable seasonal celebration.
